Between the Cracks

Between the cracks in the pavement
Resides this residue.
Its thickness
Makes it difficult
To save one’s life.
Solitude,
As one aggressively
Chips away.
Gradually, going deeper
And deeper
Only to find
That it just leads to
A gaping
Hole.
