Better Men Than I
I surround myself by better men than I.
I’ve worked quite hard to do this purposely.
In following these fellows I am lifted high,
Then, in turn, I can be made a better me.
Without their good examples I would only lose
For, of all life’s twisting paths I tend to choose
The easiest, the one that would let me snooze.
But, I’m encouraged on day by day by day
By all these friends of mine choose to do and say
And, thus, I’m led on to a better way.
It’s hard, I will admit, but I daily try
To finally become who I’m supposed to be.
And showing to my own sons how I pay my dues
They might become better men than me, I pray.
