Benny Got Fever

There was once a middle aged man from Geneva
Who everyone around, called Benny the weaver,
He preferred living in England,
As it was closer to Finland,
His girlfriend lived there, she was a dreamer.
Forgot her address never much of an achiever
Ended up in Sweden, got sick had a fever,
Collapsed in the street, an ambulance came,
The next day was better but forgot his name,
The Doctor sat with him, astute and very clever!
You Mr….the patient shrugged, have a bad heart,
I suspected this from the absolute start,
And unfortunately you have Alzheimer’s disease,
Do you know where you are, who you are please
But Benny forgot, had nothing to share or impart!
Benny opened his mouth for the first time,
Doctor he said I forget more and more its sublime,
Now I heard what you had to tell me today
I have a bad heart, but I forgot , what else did you say
What a shame, Alzheimer’s, and still in your prime!

Alzheimer's is such a sad way to go. My father passed from it. It takes the whole family to a whole different level of sadness. Good write.

My dad passed from Alzheimer's, we found it frightening what people don't know about the disease. The misery it brings and the horrors one sees. Well penned.

It is a sad state of affairs for people dealing with this disease. A bit of humour is always helpful when writing about difficult circumstances. ;0)

Hilarious that the Benny thought his doctor had Alzheimer's. It's an awful illness, but you surely gave us some giggles. Nicely done, Jennifer! Hugs, Carolyn

WOW! Jennifer, What a moving and heartbreaking story. He ending up ill and alone with a fever, then he found he was sick two ways. Alzheimer's disease is such a sad illness; it's heartbreaking to lose your mind in such away. As always, an excellent write. Have a great day, my friend. PS, I wrote a poem called “ I'll Remember For Us Both” about Alzheimer's. Stop by and read it when you have the chance:-) Alexis

Too bad. But in some cases not as bad as it may seem. Some people finally find peace when they can't remember enough to make them mad. I've seen it happen. Really grouchy selfish people get sweet all because they can't remember. Good stuff here. God Bless, JB

I'd called this wonderful poetry a parody or Rhyme. Love this and the imagination that creates such gems,
