Behind These Eyes

Behind these eyes no glimmer glows
Of future bright and rosy
Only darkness fills the scene
No sign of any posies

I try so hard reasons to find
To fill my heart with glee
To put a spring into my step
And end all this drudgery

A thousand reasons I’ve been through
Not a single one I’ve found
To lift my eyes up to the sky
And stop me looking at the ground

Then suddenly through clouds it came
A ray of blinding light
Right then I knew all was not lost
That soon would end my fight

Recovery is a slippery slope
Back from a depressed state
Some of us will never make it
For them hope came too late

But for the lucky ones of us
Who made it through the gloom
We give our thanks to God above
For saving us from the tomb
