Beggar Lady On a Church Step
BEGGAR LADY ON A CHURCH STEP
(APROPOS IN GOD WE TRUST)
Her lips quivered with despair
as the frail hand struggled with its self
to position outstretched.
Tormented eyes bulged
from cryptic sockets:
testaments of hunger’s victory.
Then loudly can the chilling voice
piercing the solemn silence screaming:
“Go away! Can’t you see
this is a church step!”
Then the saved ones
went in to pray.
I gave her my tithes
and walked away.
