Before the Clock Refused To Chime
Before the Clock Refused to Chime
By David J Walker
Made to wear the summer of
2020
Like a thorny crown
Colorless drops of blood
Dripping down
The naked necks of tired
old men and worried women
Like sweat from a day’s work for
Which you would never get paid
Like bittersweet the
stale bread of the sacrament
stolen from the street
and made
to swallow with sour wine
There was a time
There was a time
But it was before the clock
Refused to chime
