Before I Sleep At Night

I pack my bags
I shield my heart
Preparing for the coming attack
Asleep with one eye open
If only my heart were open.

Trapped within the silence
The memories of what was
I lie awake in bed at night
Counting fears inside my head
Replaying events that took place.

Intertwined in life's quiver
Unraveling at the seams
A scarecrow afraid of the sun
Why is it that I always come undone
Before I fall asleep at night?
