Because you asked why
If words make us heavenly wise,
I see no one that never tries.
If verses were writ in long speech,
The words would drift like sands on beach.
Since soul’s silent in mortal cage,
Faint, subdued feelings of heart rage,
Man’s loving breasts eager to meet,
In ecstasy brisk tend to beat.
Prosaic prose fails to keep pace,
Poetry beats ahead to race.
So, ask not dear why poetry,
Think, what’d have endured history.
Were it not so, what ancients wrote
Would not have flourished far to float.

Note: Earlier, she had asked the same question, and I had tried to answer in long speech, which had left her in cold, and which led me later to try the same in verse form. And she is like: Yea, it makes some sense, if not immense.
