Because I Said So

My children now are all adults, And they have children too. All three of them turned out quite well I’m proud of them it’s true. I had one little gripe, from the youngest of the three. Her pet peeve while growing up, she once revealed to me. When I had to tell her what to do, she always questioned “why”? "Just because I said so", was always my reply! “That answer doesn't tell my why, her reply was very bold! “Well that’s all you need to know, my dear, now, just do what you’re told”. “I’ll do just what you told me, dad but why I still don't know? cause all you ever tell me is, just because I said so!" I said, "just because I said so, ain't gonna change, don't bother! The only reason, I will give, is because I am your father! Dedicated to Karen. Why - BECAUSE I SAID SO!

Sounds like you have quite a spunky daughter, Ralph. My parents never used that phrase, but we knew better than to ask, "Why?" No, they weren't mean. Far from it. There was just a different sense of what constituted proper respect in the "old days." Love, Carolyn
