“The environment is where we all meet.” — Lady Bird Johnson
We’ve met beside the creek near our homes, Where water rushes, tumbles, and foams. You helped me free a duck from a snag, And released a fish caught fast in a bag. The latest rain has made a mess; The creek is showing its distress. I cannot clear this water’s grief alone, Nor make its muddied banks a safer zone. So, if next Saturday you have the time, Bring gloves and bags; we’ll clear that grime. We’ll lift what does not belong in earth or foam, And leave the ducks and fish to safely roam. When all our toil has freed our creek, We’ll have a picnic, like last week.
