Beauty Lost Within Plain Sight
Dedicated to my friend Caleb
As I stare at his grave
I can’t help but picture his face
I’m on my knees in tears
As I think of the years I’ve had
I look at the grave stone
Looking at when he was born and died
Hoping heaven opened wide
But I couldn’t help but notice
All his life was summed up in a line
Between when he was born and when he died
Looking at the world around
Everything set on solid ground
Anything like mountains and trees
The falling of autumn leaves
Why is it that we just do
Everything we need to do
Aren’t we more than lifeless beings
Haven’t we felt every feeling
What if starting tonight
We noticed beauty lost within plain sight
It’s so easy to feel hopeless and alone
With things we can’t control
I’m stuck within such a miserable job
And left without a girl in my life
Depression grabs hold at the toughest of times
And the demons, oh yes they lie
Looking at the world around
Everything set on solid ground
Anything like mountains and trees
The falling of autumn leaves
Why is it that we just do
Everything we need to do
Aren’t we more than lifeless beings
Haven’t we felt every feeling
What if starting tonight
We noticed beauty lost within plain sight
Sitting on my knees, still looking at that line
So many of our lives are so far from fine
What if we figured out the meaning of this life
The reason for our strife
I know I want to make that little line on my grave
Have a meaning that will stay
I want this life to mean something much bigger than me
Something people will always see
To be remembered for my faith in God
And someone who showed Christ’s love
That’s all I could ever ask for
I want to live a life God will adore
Looking at the world around
Everything set on solid ground
Anything like mountains and trees
The falling of autumn leaves
Why is it that we just do
Everything we need to do
Aren’t we more than lifeless beings
Haven’t we felt every feeling
What if starting tonight
We noticed beauty lost within plain sight
