Beauty For Ashes

BEAUTY FOR ASHES

My life was ruined, burned out within,
Empty and useless and full of great sin.
Nothing but ashes, passion, and pride,
Yet Jesus loved me and for me He died.
Beauty for ashes, that’s what He gave
When to His presence I came to be saved.
Life that was ashes now overflows
With Jesus’ beauty wherever I go.

Sometimes I falter on life’s long way,
And in the ashes of sin I will play.
Then His conviction strikes at my soul,
I know I’ve done wrong and ask to be whole.
Beauty for ashes He gives again
When He forgives me from all of my sin.
My heart’s desire is to live and stay
Close to the Savior’s pure beauty each day.

These words written to “Beautiful Dreamer.”
