Beating Still

Beating Still

I saw you there across the room
I could see you had been crying.
I saw the picture in your hand
I knew one you love is dying.

I closed my eyes and bowed my head
oh how I felt your grief.
And I prayed to the Father
asking He send you relief.

It was then a newborns cry
could be heard just down the hall.
I saw the traces of a smile
your tears they ceased to fall.

A young man’s crying his young wife’s dying
is there no mercy left on earth?
A man should lose the one he loves
as she gives his child birth?

People rushing by you now
I see understanding start.
Now you see too late for me
but I gave her my heart.

Tears will come again my love
no doubt they always will.
But I’m not gone I’ve just moved on
my heart is beating still.

How hard it is to have the blissful joy of a child, yet at the same time passing through sorrows of losing a wife..For us believers our only comfort ..is that We move on yet never die.Through spirit she will protect both husbandand child. .And what greater love can a wife and a mother give, then her own life so the child would live.I lost an old school friend this way,but her child didnt make it either.Sometimes Its hard to understand God s plan, but then short is our mission here.Awesome poem.

Thank you Charmaine. This poem went through some changes as I wrote it. And you are so right about how hard it is sometimes to find understanding. And instead settiling for some form of acceptance never fully understanding at all. At least not on this side of heaven. Hugs to you for your loss. I've no doubt there is a part of them in everything you write. God Bless. Ed
