Be Patient With Me

I’m afraid to open up, you see,
because love runs far too deep in me.
It overflows, it shakes, it burns
and too often, that’s when someone turns.

I’ve been told I feel too much,
that my heart’s too quick to trust a touch.
So I’ve learned to guard, to hide, to flee
until you opened up to me.

You make me feel safe, you make me brave,
like I don’t have to pretend or save
the broken parts I tend to keep
with you, my secrets learn to sleep.

I’ve told you things I’ve never said,
you live inside my heart and head.
It scares me how at peace I feel,
how something this soft could be so real.

You are my calm, my sacred place,
the warmth I see in your embrace.
I know that time will make things change,
but maybe change won’t feel so strange.

Maybe the butterflies will rest,
and love will linger, steady, blessed.
Maybe the sparks will never tire,
but grow into an endless fire.

So please be patient, let me be
the girl still learning how to see
that love like this was meant to stay
and not to fear it’ll slip away.

Johneta, I loved this poem. The way you write about the fear of opening up, and learning to let love in without fear, truly spoke to me - it feels so honest and tender. Thanks for sharing.
