Battle of Our Hearts

How can you lie so close to me yet seem so far away? You ask me what I’m feeling but I don’t know what to say. Words used to come so easy and roll right off my tongue but that was when I’d die for you and we were both so young. We could easily play the blame game or fight and scream and shout but that won’t make it better and it won’t get me out. How could we start on such a high then end on such a low? I thought I’d stay forever but now can’t wait to go. The magic ride we started is about to crash and burn, I still don’t know what happened, so I guess I’ll never learn. “All’s fair in love and war,” they say and you can’t avoid the pain, so even if you love again the scares will still remain. We both know that there’s nothing left of this love we both once shared and it doesn’t really matter if you ever really cared because the battle lines were drawn up and we both played out our parts. As we shared our ringside tickets to the battle of our hearts, where bitter words were spoken and insults thrown about, where our hearts were torn and broken once the final bell rung out. Now that it’s all over, It’s not hard to understand why I’ll never place my heart again in some one else’s hands . The silence is deafening in our private little hell but even through the hurt and pain, I can’t help but wish you well.
