Barely Hanging On
Flashbacks of days I can’t erase,
Every memory a scar, every word a blade’s trace.
Promises broken, their edges still tear,
Silence becomes more than I can bear.
This mind is a torment; it never will cease,
Time drags on, but never brings peace.
Anger, anxiety, depression collide,
A storm with no shelter, no place to hide.
Bipolar storms rip the ground from my feet,
A violent rhythm I cannot defeat.
The highs are illusions, the lows never end,
Each cycle a wound that will never mend.
Depression devours, it swallows me whole,
It strangles the light and corrodes my soul.
A weight on my chest, a voice in my head,
Reminding me daily I’d be better off dead.
Anxiety hisses, it gnaws at my core,
Every glance feels fatal, each thought is war.
My chest is on fire, my breath turns thin,
A prison of panic that I’m trapped within.
Together they break me, they tear me apart,
Rotting my spirit, consuming my heart.
I smile through the torment, pretend I am strong,
But inside Im dying, barely hanging on.
At last I am broken, my body gives way,
The shadows consume what’s left of the day.
Their claws tear me open, my silence is red,
The war is now over....at last, I am dead.
