Barbados
Whenever life - or the weather - gets chaotic,
I love to retreat to somewhere exotic,
and there is one place in the Caribbean
that, for me, is worthy of song or paean.
This place is one that I like to describe
as having a laidback, relaxed kind of vibe.
Barbados is the name of this blessed land,
an island that is tiny, but as a country it’s grand.
This beautiful space holds a great deal of charm.
Its people are engaging, friendly and warm.
When people walk, they leisurely stroll.
There’s no sense hurrying or the heat’ll take its toll.
The natives speak Bajan English
with an accent that’s tapioca-thick.
Sometimes, it’s hard to understand
but you can pick up what’s said fairly quick.
If you come to visit, please don’t get caught
without any sunscreen, ‘cause it gets really hot!
The land is so vibrant, luxuriant and lush.
Take your time to explore. There’s no need to rush.
There’s even a rainforest with bamboo and royal palms,
remarkable in its stillness, serenity and calm.
It doesn’t have mountains, but verdant hills.
The views can be breathtaking, truly visual thrills.
The beaches are beautiful, water of aqua blue,
beige sand and white breakers - sparkling hues.
Barbados is a small but remarkable nation,
one of the most alluring in all of creation.
