Bar Life

Alone again in this God forsaken bar,
Will I remember where I left my car?
Squinting to see people in the dim light.
Looking for love in someone tonight.

Hoping to look good in someone's eyes,
Accepting half truths and lies,
Come, let me buy you a drink,
I don’t care what people will think.

It's not that late, the night is still young.
Alcohol always loosens the tongue,
What is hidden behind that face,
Keep one eye on the exit of this place.

Reaching out, touching, trying to survive,
Come and love me, I am still alive.
I don't want to go home alone.
Maybe you will come to my home,

Loneliness makes risks easy to take,
Please God, watch over me for my sake.
Searching for someone for my bed,
My mother's warnings echo in my head.

Who the hell turned on these bright lights?
It's not time to call it a night.
Another night of putting my heart on the line,
Good night barkeep, I'll see you next time.

Nice to reread, Timothy. Not that I hung around much in bars but I always felt that creepy element. Not really my scene... I'm the type that would bring a book and sit in a corner sipping on a Chardonnay. Enjoyed your poem.

I didn't run bars much but I couldn't help but notice the loneliness there.
