Balance
Balance
Being an elderly block
With hardly a lock
Had a cut on hair grey
When I had this dismay:
“Grey hair is a trouble,
“I’ll charge you double!”
“With you, I must be bold
“Look this head is bald
“Sure, it’s pretty enough
“To reimburse you half!”
*
Where behaviour is cold
By denigrating the old
Our value is not double
Our worth meets trouble.
And, where Hope’s gone
By Age’s frail bone
If Love is given by enough
Woe is lessened by half!
The infirm is not jealous
Stop being overzealous-
God willing and perchance
Life may strike a balance!
