Bahnhof
This is the crux
of the situation
some trains never
leave the station
some go blowing
by unseen
too fast to catch
more than a gleam.
The film upon
the old man's eyes
the death that comes
as no surprise
the shadow glides
across the room
the air is dank
like from the tomb.
Dimples on a
baby's hand
generals pouring
over plans
hearts that grope
for something sure
the comfort of
a kitten's purr.
The barn owl frowns
and cocks his head
the hearts of field mice
race with dread
the blue jay pumping
out his call
the bug that bangs
against the wall.
The spider sets her
trap and waits
cold eyes behind
the prison gates.
the spirit caught
on earthly plane
afraid to go and
face his shame.
I am you and
you are me
and life goes on
eternally.
