Backslide Companion Blues
Of all the gin joints,
and pool halls,
on bar stools,
and in the shallows of oceans, the Siren calls.
It calls us men back.
If only men can bust that Jack!
Oh, for years you evaded all men like me,
and kept hidden in the darkest of corners.
But while drunk or flat busted you were the best friend of me,
while I groveled and trashed all that was the "bless-ed be."
If only then I busted you, Jack!
Yeah, Christ came and saved my soul and gave me a purpose for living.
But you, you damn bastard of Babylon!
You knew when to come and go; when to hide and show what's missing!
You damn demon with no name, telling lies, casting shame... and blaming.
But now I got you, Jack!
You are done, you miserable scum!
I got you by the tail and you're not welcomed back.
Squeel for me pig! I got your number, and I got your name.
You were sent from hell, and you have sent many to the rack.
But now I identified you, and I call you out, "Jack!"
With God by my side, and you in my sights,
I call you out Jack, the rat.
Brace yourself, you son of a fatherless whore... here comes a fight
I sing "Pirate over 40" no more!
I'm about to punch out your lights.
Are you ready, Freddy!? Here it comes; now it's time to say "good night!"
I simply turn... and walk away.
Goodbye, Jack... now I am living life... MY way!
