Away From Home

For a soldier, not yet home, serving their country,
away from home, is like being, on a distance star.
According to the time frame of being deployed,
away from home, seems like light years, from a far.

Only one alternative, in the meantime,
to help, deal with the distance, put between.
Is to use any kind of correspondence,
it be mail, phone, or from a computer screen.

Still there isn't like human contact,
to interact face to face with emotion, in the flesh.
Especially, with people all your life you've known for,
of which, together with them, you then mesh.

Many of us soldiers, dream of coming home,
in our heads, replaying the dream over and over again.
Anticipating, for the moment, to ever happen,
truly hard, for sure, not knowing when.
