Awareness

Paint splattered canvas With symbols of faces Explosions of colour, vivid and bright Psychedelic images with ugly expression Leering from pictures as if to cause fright Brush strokes, defiant and deliberate Can the artist see something elusive to you and me? Space-age faces with huge brains and sad eyes Do they not realise that knowledge is not wisdom And can make the soul cry? Hearts screaming " We are sick---we're not bad It's just our awareness has driven us mad"

Thank-you, I wrote this nearly 20 years ago after I had visited an Art room that was used to encourage people with Mental Illness To Paint. As you encourage me to keep on writing, with your kind comments....Shirley
