Avoiding Mirrors

I looked in the mirror today
And, somewhere along the way,
It seems I have grown to be so old.

My head is a barren place;
There are wrinkles upon my face;
Around my eyes, many a story has been told.

My stomach is no longer flat;
My chest never looked like that;
For what price has my body’s shape been sold?

Through this looking glass
I cannot see my ass,
But it feels like some lumpy play-do mold.

Need I even dare to mention,
Strange women no longer question
My marital status oh so bold?

They say the longer life you live
Really beats the alternative;
It’s a mantra I want my consciousness to hold.

But, in my mind I still feel young,
So defiantly I stick out my tongue
And walk away from that reflection so cold.

I love this poem, and I too avoid looking too closely into those darned mirrors - too many creases around my eyes :P ~ Sharon :)
