Avoid

On a cliff I walk astride
A narrow path, trod and
Worn to mud, slippery
And fear in me sees
My body hit the rocks
Below with a fleshy
Bony thud! So I avoid!

On the street I walk behind
Some dodgy men that look
Suspect and fear in me sees
My body slumped in a dingy
Alley, my flesh and bones
Are wrecked! So I avoid!

On a bench inside a church
I see a crucifix hanging and
On it a man with thorns in
His head is pinned there
Languishing and fear in
Me sees my body scourged
And flesh and bones
Ravaged! So I avoid!

Most fearfully written poem! Made me shiver to the core - thinking about there is no one place in this world that I could hide from my fears! Provoking thoughts are we hiding ourselves behind the walls?

Sometimes one has to take a different course, but it all in the end leads to the top of the hill. There are no such thing as a life without challenges. Avoiding challenges make us avoid life. But sometimes we get warnings we have to listen to, it can save life. Thought provoking write, David, you are a master at that. Thanks for sharing and thank you for your kind comment on my latest. Best wishes, Caroline.

What if you walked on the cliff and didn't fall? What if you walked behind me and nothing happened? What if the man on the crucifix decided to be there instead of you?

Interesting write about coping with fear...I fear skydiving so I avoid...Even worse falling from an airplane and no parachute...We can all relate to fear..Great topic..Keep the creative pen flowing..Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Ghazal "Lavender Rain"...Sara

at least you did not say the hypocrits keep you away. that would be too cliche and unoriginal.

I can relate David. A brilliant allegory weighing the fears most beings face in life. Blessings, Connie
