Avalanche
Standing on the edge of an abyss
Watching the ground crumble away at my feet.
Nothing to grab onto overhead
No one to plead with for relief.
The descent seemed to start slowly
But soon, nothing can stop the decline.
Battered and bruised, I keep hurtling downward
Wondering when the bottom will arrive.
I have been on this slide once before,
I survived it those many years past.
But this time, my heart hasn’t healed completely,
I feel it exploding from my chests desperate grasp.
I fought for my life all those years ago,
I don’t want to fight anymore.
The pain will soon be over for me.
No one can hear my screams over the avalanche’s roar.
