Listen to poem:

Auslander

The Ausländer
David J Walker

We share the world with sinners
We share the world with saints

We elect ourselves the oft mistaken
magistrates

Who mediates
The distribution of the various
prison tattoo’s

Branding with scarlet letters
The cautions of crossed pathed
		Possibilities

each emblem
the feared
confession of Caine

The smokey glass window stained with
		the flawed and

overexposed soul
of someone who knows
		he/she

will always be
		an Ausländer
