Atlas

A map of the world is a logical thing,
My half, your half, both drawn with one ink.
Where miles are condensed to the span of a page,
Where mountains are miniature, rivers are veins.

A map of the world puts the Earth in its place,
My country, your country, apart on its face.
It sees the big picture, knows no 'far away',
It shows that the world is as small as they say.

A map of the world has my interests at heart,
Shows my door and your door, just inches apart.
So though we are distanced, how far can you be?
You're close where it counts, you're the whole world to me.

Using assonance to fashion rhymes is very clever. (Dylan Thomas used these off-rhymes quite frequently.) I like your incurable optimism... making a love poem out of a globe is ingenious and sweet. Best wishes, Keith :)
