At the River

A silent empty sky
is spreading
over silent streets.
And at the river's banks nearby,
some ice is forming into brilliant sheets.

A flock of raven circle in the air,
to form a colony with cheerful sound.
And ducks follow each other pair by pair,
to look for food at river's hidden ground.

From far another noise comes to my ear,
so often heard when I was small,
A train engine's whistle lound and clear.
Gray smoke is growing from its chimney tall.

That last line, exactly the kind of imagery I adore. The whole thing is a great picture painted with your words. Luv, Andrea

Great rhyme, Gert. I can hear the train, too. Nice when memories come to surface.

Alluring write in this one. The trains in our area are getting fewer and fewer. The tracks are being torn up...gone forever I suppose. Then again there could be a resurgence in that area who knows. The rhyme, rhythm, and descriptiveness is excellent in this one. Keep the creative pen flowing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my work. Sara
