At Heaven's Door

A closed door opens to my knock
A stranger stands at the frame
‘Welcome to heaven' a voice spoke
‘Beneath you is hell’s eternal flame
You’ve been truly an honest bloke
You have a new home in this realm'

A dream from which I awoke
In bed to wonder about it all
About life and the heaven I seek
About sin, death and the devil
And the wasted chances I never took
To go to church and humble myself to kneel
Pray with my hands firmly clenching the book

To put God first is my new found mission
I’m reminded so more and more
Each day I switch on the television
We need him more than we ever did before
God came to me that night in a vision
A warning, if I’ll be standing at heaven’s door
