At Close Range

Here is another true story, that I’m willing to tell,
a child who went through living hell.
My stepdad hated me, I didn’t know why,
he was always doing things, to cause me to die.
When I was only 8, that thanksgiving, dropped my car, bent over to retrieve,
a bullet through the wall, can you believe.
A 30-30, at about ten feet away,
I came close to death that day.
Through the dresser, through that wall, to the outside,
in this story I have not lied.
It would have hit me in the head,
and I wouldn’t be writing, cause I’d be dead.
Thank God for His ways, of protecting you and me,
no matter how old or young, we get to be.
