Assent

Once you were unattainable
Once I was separated by the years
For a moment you were there
But I saw you through ignorant eyes
And yet I must have felt the tie
That formed despite my fears
Will there ever be a you and me...
All you have to say is yes…

Once you looked past me
Once I searched for another
A brief word was uttered
But I was without recognition of the voice
I didn’t know there was a choice
For you were neither friend nor lover
If only you would look a little longer
And all you have to say is yes…

Once we crossed paths
Once we looked the other way
Now we’ve circled around again
and you’re standing in front of me
This time I won’t let you leave
This time I have so much more to say
Are you already aware of it all…
All you have to say is yes…

Once you saw someone else
Once I was touched by a different heart
Now I only feel your hands
And see nothing but your face
I’m awake and not a moment’s going to waste
Will you show me where to start…
All you have to say is yes…

Once you were unattainable
Once I was separated by the years
Now you’re saying forever
And I’m looking at you through blinded eyes
I see you smile and hear you sigh
As you kiss away my tears
You’re looking at me in assent
For what you just said was yes…
