Ashes and Dust

A burning flame so beautifully strong,
Wielded by a heart so woefully wrong,
A heart so hurt from a previous spark
That it still has the past wound's mark.

But this heart thought it was fine,
Arrogant as it was since the beginning of time,
Not knowing when and where to stop loving
A flaw that is too beautiful to need any fixing.

Finding a flame so pure did not aid
In making this heart's hate fully fade,
As time went on it began to kill
The flame that meant a great deal.
