I needed to give myself permission to give up and to get emotionally charged enough to deal with the separation.Integrity is a large part of who I am.

Listen to poem:
It’s a long slow trip into misery
It starts by putting that bad feeling aside

By narrowing your expectations
And removing all of your pride

And as you make you humble
You actually cripple as well

You reach so far to have someone else
That it actually puts you in hell

It’s a long slow trip into misery
From which I must return

And in order to do this
I must internalize the lessons learned

To believe in me
To set me free

To walk into the light
And possibly disappear from sight

Susan this poem is so amazing! Thus poem resonated with me on a very emotional level. My ex once told me. That I spoke to much and I embarrassed him. Wow! He does not respect me. 17 years with him. Lost. I am still trying to do what you have done. 5 years after break up and still trying. Kudos! My friend for pulling it together and knowing your self worth.

Thanks, I still struggle with this. I actually was in a relationship for 12 years before I got together with Alan. That relationship had been stagnant for at least 7 years, but I stayed. I am clearly loyal past the expiration date...
