As the Quiet Night

As the quiet night awakes me Catching my shallow breath My heart cries lonesome sorrow’s plea As tears roll silent death You are gone away now To wars and soldier’s vows My heart lies disavowed Come home in dreams so tenderly As the quiet night awakes me February 16, 2022 Quietus Poetry Contest Sponsored by Unseeking Seeker

I am amazed this one did not get a first place. I have seen all of them now, and this remains one of my favorites. Congrats for making the winner list.

Lonna, congratulations on your win with this poem that evokes the feeling of separation and being alone with the night, not a lover, that wakes you. Sending you blessings of sweet slumber.

Thank you for participating … congrats on your win, hope you enjoyed the Quietus form! The tercet used the word ‘now’ twice, otherwise the poem would have placed higher :)
