As Is – As Were

On a summer night when the moon was high
I rose from sweaty slumber deep.
What was it that made me sigh
And woke me from the depths of sleep?

Was it the sultry moonlit night
Which made my bedsheets stick?
Or shall I say my mind in plight,
Or a corporeal system out of tick?

Whatever it was, t’was a curse,
For the tenebrous shadows on the walls
Proclaimed the signal loud and terse
“Nemesis, sometimes, always, calls.”

I sat up in clammy, unnamed fear,
A misty pall upon my soul,
My cobwebbed mind I tried to clear
And found the answer in Luna’s mole.

The moon doth wax, and the moon doth wane,
Selene, unparalleled, beauteous in its lustrous light
Driving all and sundry quite insane –
But still its blotch remains its bane!

Then who am I to suffer so,
Pondering on intangibles, worrying much?
I am just a human, nothing more,
Imperfect, sinful – let me be as such!
