As If
As if peace flowed like lava
As if peace danced on the head of a pin
As if peace slept in leaves of grass
As if peace promised to pay attention
As if peace prayed alone on its knees
As if peace kissed each of us on the forehead
As if peace worked from nine to five
As if peace rested in the heart of every being
As if war generated amusement
As if war manifested itself in dollar bills
As if war shaved the head of every soldier
As if war opened smoking holes in the earth
As if war shattered the dreams of every nation
As if war worked from nine to five
As if war drew a line in the sand
As if war soiled the face of the planet with blood
warm tears will fall recalling memories of lives lost
and barely lived, of geniuses born with the promise
and the vision of new and beautiful worlds no one
had ever imagined - and they will walk the earth
like giants in the dreams of little children, like wicked
beasts in the Valley of Death, like electromagnetic beams
from planets yet to be discovered – and we will all
walk together in the shadow of immaculate beings
not yet born
who will love us
