i think I finally was able to put down why I write poetry. 

As I Travel Through Life

As I Travel Through Life
My objective in writing poetry

As I travel through life,
Through joy and through strife,
I offer what I see to you.
 For no matter the name,
We're all much same,
In doing the things that we do.

If I open your eyes,
Make you think, realize,
That you have a brain ear to ear,
That you agree or decline
With the the thoughts I opine,
Then I've accomplished what I attempt here

I offer in rhyme
And present time to time,
Observations I make as I go.
You may not agree,
With what you  might see,
And you're free to do that, you know.

Hope they help make your day.
These things that I say;
That I write for you to peruse.
As you travel through life
Through joy and through strife
May you win much more than you lose
