As America Burns
Gone
is the beauty that once cast
softened shadows along the land held fast.
Gone
are the beaches blown in sand
away as continual flames are fanned.
Gone
is the promise of freedom, laid upon the pathway and its deeds
where blood and heroes, truth and integrity once more bleeds.
America
who are you now amid the air so thick and acrid
What dreams and promises do you still hold sacred?
Footsteps erased by time and greed
ruled by liars and deniars of truth and its beliefs
who lives to restore our integrity?
Gone
lost to history, honesty, honor, praise and acclamation
the hope and dreams of a once-rising strong nation.
Shadows now
appear to be, all that remains
what is lost, what have you gained?
America
still within the burning embers
what legacy will be remembered?
