Armor

You know that pain in your heart
The one you get from someone you love
It’s a hurt I want to avoid
Wish I could cover my heart with a glove.

No, better yet have an armor of steel
Protection from the harm he inflicts
Nothing could penetrate the wall
Maybe end up with just a few nicks.

His words could not break through
Nor his lack of compassion for me
Not even the fact I come last in his life
They’d bounce off one, two, three.

I know I’d be blocking the good
With this prison to keep out the ache
Right now I don’t really care
I’ve had all that I can take.
