April Fools'

Does anybody still play pranks
To honor April Fools’?
It used to be a date when people
Messed with all the rules.

The press would often publish
Stores that were clearly fake.
We laughed about that once, but now
There’s just too much at stake.

It’s sad to find that humor
Lately, more than not, provokes,
When in the past we lightened up,
On April Fools’, with jokes.

It is hard for me to think of an April fools joke that won't make my children angry, or they immediately know I am trying to fool them. I may have caught my youngest today...we'll see. Lol. my grandfather used to catch me every year. He was born on April 2. A long time since he passed. I enjoyed your poem Ilene. ; )

I saw many stories in the press and one on the local radio today and of course there was my poem:-) Saying that when I read some of the press throughout the year I often wonder if they are early April fools jokes!:-( hugs jan xx
