April
One fine day in April
I sat down in the shade
Among the greens and lavenders
To watch the hours fade
I saw the grass turn golden
To the afternoon’s delight
And the sky so blue, so peaceful blue
Could never turn to night
The vines that creep along the walls
Were heavy-hung with blooms
And the myrtles’ sleepy faces
Deeper purple in the gloom
The lawn with petals littered
Pink tears that fall with rain
So fragrant and fulfilling
As trees blossom ‘long the lane
One sweet day in April
I dreamed, as dreamers do
And let the earth inspire me
This tale I tell to you.
