Apple of My Eye, They Will Despise You

Beloved, they will hate you with jealous hearts
and try to destroy you from off the earth.
They will hurl their insults and lies like darts,
denying your special place and your worth.

From your unlikely lineage I came,
(small in number, but never defeated)
to bear the world's burden of sin and shame.
As they treated me, so you will be treated.

Apple of my eye, they will despise you.
The whole world will stand in opposition,
but with my might I will protect you,
and they will marvel at your secure position.

Those who try to destroy you will perish,
but those who bless you, I will also bless.
My chosen great nation, whom I cherish,
by you, the whole world will know and confess.

With trembling, all will know that I am
the One who reigns upon the throne,
the God of Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham.
who saves the lowly and knows His own.

Zechariah 12:3

3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Genesis 12:2-3

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Thanks, Sandra. Israel has been on my heart lately. God has worked so many miracles through this nation throughout history and continues to preserve them. Poetic hugs.

Your poetic words are bold and strong and full of belief and conviction, Juliet. Wonderful words of truth, and well written, too! Enjoyed this one! :)

Thanks, Laura. I'd love to be able to write more scriptural poems, but it has always been intimidating. Thanks for the encouragement.
