Animal Deer

Green leaf strewn rustler I,
bony skull appendage,
whose graceful trot in coppice,
casts a misty blue spell,
that orange red eyed squint,
and fawn spots, my heart-blest shroud

Congrats to you, Howard, even though a little late. Thank you for sharing this one with us. Way to go. We feel overrun with deer here sometimes. They can get to be a nuisance or nuisances because they will eat most anything in our yards and in our gardens if they can get in the garden. We are having a very large population of rabbits here this year. Sara K. 👍👏👏

Thank you for congratulating me, Andrea. And of course for reading this entry. And the other observations. Howard

Dear Howard, your golden pen captures the beauty of your spirit animal with poetic finesse. I was immediately struck by your first line "Green leaf strewn rustler I," it has a quiet yet vivid auditory quality that I adore. Each line contributes to the deer's gentle portrait; "whose graceful trot in coppice,/casts a misty blue spell", movement and color interact magically. Your last 2 lines are soft and spiritual which contrasts with your 2nd line "bony skull appendage," which is hard and physical, blending both worlds. Love the innocence of "fawn spots". There's so much to love about this petite and profound poetic package. Warmest wishes, my poet friend.. ~Susan

Dear Susan, I will always cherish your extremely fair, detailed, and thorough analysis of this work. Your generous reflections on its individual components are poetic in nature and elevate commentary to a higher level. The alertness in your review to the symbolism and meaning I attempted to convey I found pleasing. Warm regards Howard
