Angels Among Us

When I was just a little girl
I went to church once a week
All the children would gather round
To hear the Reverend speak

I still remember what he said
“Be good and kind and never lie,
Because one day you’ll reach the gates
And with the Angels you will fly”

So I really tried my very best
To live a life without sin
Believing that in the end
Bells would chime and I’d get in

Then one day I met a lady
Strong and brave, so full of love
Never was there a kinder soul
She must have been from up above

Had I died and gone to heaven
No, this just can’t be
Only the pure at heart get in
Yet evil is all around me

Hate and crime fill the streets
Lies and deceit are unrestrained
It’s not about benevolence
Your judged by what you’ve gained

Questioning all that I believed
I dropped down to my knees
I prayed to the Heavenly Father
Explain this to me please

He said the answer is really simple
Since selflessness is dearth
I have sent the purest of Angels
To live with you on earth

So watch them very closely
Let them be your guide
For if you follow a celestial path
In heaven you ‘ll reside
