And You Will Ever Be the One

-RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL-

In and out, over the years Lord,
Close and yet sometimes far away.
It was never You who moved from me Lord,
So close are You from day to day.

Cleansed from within by Your Holy Fire,
I’ve seen earthly desires just fall away.
And yet, like the pig drawn back to the mire,
I’d return to living my life in carnal ways.

But it is You ever patient with me,
Staying with me throughout the years.
You would not leave me with eyes that can’t see
But you’d walk me away from my fears.

Tonight it is that I sit in Your Presence,
Willing to let go of days gone by.
This day, the first day of the rest of my life
I am willing to let all other things die.

I run hard after You, O God my Lord,
To the end of days I will not let You go.
As temporal things pale, You remain my reward
And You will ever be the One I long to know.

That seems to be the way people are now a days...thinking that all there is to gain materialistic things hoping to satisfy their hunger. But they're never satisfied...and will continue to hunger because they are not searching in the right place for what they hunger for the most...The Good Lord. Thank you for a inspiring write Douglas

This one is very lyrical, and reminiscent of David's Psalms. Nicely crafter piece. You are going into my favorite poets. Donna
