And I Stood Dreaming

I have watched my friends die,
I have seen my mother cry,
I have heard my father lie
And I stood dreaming.

I have seen young men fight,
I have seen moonshine without night.
I have felt the sunshine bright
And I stood dreaming.

I have heard the screams of fresh birth,
I have seen sellers of a new church.
I have watched suffering too much
And I stood dreaming.

I have seen young hearts bleeding,
I have never heard politicians conceding.
I have walked past the face of needing
And I stood dreaming.

I believed man could love man,
I believed trees would stand time.
I believed I could change all wrongs
And I stood dreaming.
