Ancient Beauty

Once I came upon an ancient tree
Thick of trunk and looking old
A canopy of thinning leaf and limb
Still a thing of beauty to behold.

Its bark rough and full of cracks
Weathered through the years of wear
Still giving shelter to those who come
To sit under it without a care.

Then I saw an old woman on a bench
Thick of trunk with thin cracked skin
Sheltering a child, holding her close
Displaying a beauty from within.
