An Optimistic Hope
Lying to myself,
I am determined and strong.
I’ve got to think clearly,
But I know I was wrong.
When the pain subsides,
It comes back in force.
I’ve got to see the future,
Let fate take its course.
Hearing your voice,
Is a bittersweet occurrence.
A sadness grips at me,
A tightly wound deterrence.
I’m caught looking to both,
A bright future and a misguided past.
Torn between times,
I don’t know how long this will last.
Memories come flooding,
Followed by imaginary thought.
Some good and some bad,
But will it all come for naught?
Remaining optimistic,
At least a portion of my day.
Reverting to pessimistic,
No matter what I can say.
I’ve no reason to doubt,
All the things she says true.
An animosity’s touch,
Keeping me from you.
I’ll see you soon,
How will it go?
I love you to the moon,
But this you already know.
I hope to see you smile,
I hope to see a sparkle in your eyes.
I hope there’s an ignition,
So our fire never dies.
What’s left is some embers,
With a hope of tomorrow.
I hope I’m not too late,
Able to cast away sorrow.
I know all my misgiving,
My past unfortunately true.
Though I’ve got to keep living,
Hopefully one day I’ll have you.
