For Joseph May's  'Rhymes in Nine 2' Poetry Contest

Picture #4

#4 Mellow is our hound found lying on our deck by the lake. A blaze of glorious yellow and orange meets my gaze. Those radiant trees reflected in the water make my poor heart ache. Old memories seize me as I look out at those trees. Oh, all those days I recall of autumn’s fleeting gold phase! Gone are our times like happy rhymes drifting away with a breeze. There near the dog of my lost love is my darling’s wicker chair. Where are those arms that cradled me as we watched the day's last rays? I play the guitar that he cradled as well. Grey is this fate I must bear.

Thanks so much. I did my first one forgetting to use one of the pictures but I prefer my do-over.

I didn't mean it to be sad, but it kind of wrote itself that way once I got started!

Dear sweet andrea, Wow this is beautiful and so fitting for the picture too, and how evocative is this, reminiscing days of love now gone and lost but still within the heart, i especially love the line “ Gone are our times like happy rhymes drifting away with a breeze.” This really is soul touching! You are a natural with rhymes, i bet it just comes easy for you! Best wishes. Sending you light always

Well, this internal rhyming is not so easy for me, but after I got going, the last two stanzas kind of wrote themselves and I went in a sad direction. Thanks, Ink

I rarely dwell on sad memories and even the many years since losing my brother, I only recall the good happy things about him. Joe is getting by but he has terrible back pain, and insurance is making him jump through hoops doing pysical therapy, etc before they will let him have ablation for the nerve causing him pain. So much silly stuff we have to do!! Thanks for reading, Michael.
